OPPORTUNITY: SR. MATERIAL SCIENCE ENGINEER

Reports to: Engineering Manager / VP of Engineering

Summary: Solaicx produces low-cost, high-efficiency silicon for the photovoltaic (PV) industry at our mass production facility in Portland, Oregon. We are seeking individuals to design and develop ultra-pure material cleaning processes especially related to the handling of silicon material.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Design and develop ultra-pure material cleaning processes, especially related to the handling of Silicon materials. Develop a process for insuring that incoming supplies of high purity silicon are in the proper form for use in machines. Analyze materials/physical properties, identifying adequate materials to use in specific processes. Pulverize/ prepare samples using chemicals, thermal processes and sorting systems. Analyze wet chemistry/ etch chemistry. Knowledge of instrumentation used to measure impurities on both final products and starting material (acid digestions, ICPMS, AA).

 

Qualifications:

• MS or foreign equivalent in Materials Science and Engineering and 3 years of experience. Will accept BS or foreign equivalent in Materials Science and Engineering and 5 years of experience in lieu of the aforementioned.
• Experience in process development, process optimization and process transfer to production in startup environment.
• Good understanding of resizing processes such as crushing and pulverizing.
• Familiarity of characterization techniques to identify impurities.
• Must have knowledge of chemical etching and cleaning of Silicon surface to remove contaminants, and experience working with HF.
